New month, fresh list. September brings a brand new app to the store, updates to two apps I lean on constantly, and something this list has never had before: a section just for anime.

StreamFlix Reborn is still the one to beat

Still one of the most praised apps going, and it has earned it. Smooth, simple, and packed with more than you would expect from something that feels this light. If you keep only one movie and TV app on your device, this is the one I would keep.

Cinema HQ just updated

Cinema HQ keeps getting better and it is quickly becoming a favourite around here. Movies, TV shows and live TV in the same app makes it a serious all in one option, which is rarer than it sounds. If it has been sitting on your device a while, install the new version over the top and your setup stays where it is.

Reezn is still kicking strong

Reezn has been around a while and it keeps holding up. A dependable pick for movies and shows, with live TV in the mix as well. Nothing flashy, it just works, which is why it stays.

MovieBox just updated

If what you want is speed, MovieBox deserves a look. One click and you are watching. It is easily the fastest feeling movie app in this month's lineup, and the new version sharpens that further. Worth having alongside something heavier for the nights you cannot be bothered browsing.

FlixVision keeps its spot

Another strong one heading into September, and still feature packed enough to earn a place in the rotation. If you have it, keep it.

PlayTorrio: new this month

The newest arrival, and it is making a bit of noise right now. Early days, but it is working great and it has clearly earned a spot on the September list. Grab it and tell me what you think, because a new app's first month is when feedback actually shapes it.

The sports lineup right now

Three to keep on your radar this month, all sitting in the Live Sports section in LinkDrop:

• AK47 is still going strong and remains one of the reliable ones.
• SK Tech is worth a look if you want live channels with a heavy sports tilt.
